Xiaomi Launches its First Gaming Laptop with GeForce GTX 1060 GPU, 16GB RAM

In previous few years Xiaomi launched series of notebooks most of which were exclusive to China, today, the company has stepped up to announce its first gaming laptop at a special event hosted in Shanghai, the place that saw to the birth of Mi Mix 2s earlier today. The Mi Gaming Laptop as called, is targeted at gamers and it have decent GPU and processor to get the work done. The arrangement of things including the keyboard shows the device mean business as well.

Body weight and thickness are never the selling point of gaming laptops and the new Xiaomi laptop seems to follow the same trend, measuring 20.9mm in thickness, while it is 2.7kg heavy. It has the standard 15.6-inch screen (anti-glare) with Full HD (1920x1080) resolution, which is held by two hinges to the main component. The display is 300 nits bright and it has a wide 178-degree viewing angle. There is no smart sync incase you are wondering.

Powering the device on the inside is a 7th gen Intel Core i5-7300HQ quad-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz, paired with a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti GPU. More gaming can be done on a higher model with Intel Core i7-7700HQ quad-core processor with 4.0GHz clock speed, which has a more powerful NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card.  The RAM configurations are 8GB DDR4 for the basic model and 16GB DDR4 for the high-end model. There are 128GB and 256GB SSD onboard, respectively, in addition to 1TB HDD meant for storing media files and other data on both models.

The Mi Gaming Laptop keyboard can be color-coded with support of up to 16 million backlit light colors over four zones. On the keyboard there are five separate programmable keys that users can configured to their liking in launching certain apps, settings, or folder. Other features include 1MP HD webcam, dual 3W speakers with Hi-Res audio and Dolby Panorama, and digital array microphone.

Connectivity included are USB Type-C port, 4x USB 3.0 ports, HDMI port, Ethernet port, Bluetooth 4.1, WiFi 802.11ac (dual band), and 3-in-1 card reader. The gaming laptop is fuelled by a 55Wh battery. According to Xiaomi, the battery can renders up to 6.5 hours of web browsing or 5.5 hours of video playback.

Price starts at CNY 5999 ($955) for the Core i5 version, and CNY 7999 ($1274) for the Core i7 version. It will be available from April 13th.
