After several leaks and rumours, Samsung has finally announced its latest clamshell smartphone, W2018, in China at an event organized by the firm in Xiamen earlier today. The firm has partnered with China Telecom to launch the device.

The phone comes with a premium design and packs high-end specifications that were seen on Samsung recent flagship. It is clad in an aluminum body wrapped around the edges in metal frame with 3D glass covering the rear panel for smooth feel, which nonetheless gives the phone a distinct solid look. The volume up/down buttons are placed on its left side while the power button is located on the right.

Its premium tier first start with the display. The W2018 features not only one but two high-resolution display, one on the outside and the other on the inside. Both display are 4.2-inch in size; are touchscreen, and they use AMOLED technology for backlighting. These have Full HD (1920x1080) resolution under the hood for detailed image clarity.

The Samsung new flip phone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform for undiluted raw power. Coupled along with this high-end processor is 6GB of RAM for great multitasking and Adreno 540 GPU for graphics. There is a 64GB of storage inside with an option to expand it up to 256GB via an external MicroSD card slot provided.

The W2018 runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box which is disappointing ofcourse, but then, Samsung has integrated its AI-powered Bixby assistant deep into the OS to offer modern support, which can now communicate 100-percent in Chinese. The Bixby has a dedicated button too. Moreover, Samsung promised to release Android Oreo update for the device sometime next year.

For security, a fingerprint scanner is embedded at the back for biometric authentication. The W2018 claims world's first mobile device to feature an f/1.5 aperture 12MP rear camera, a joy killer for the LG V30 that was previously holding the highest rank with its f/1.6 camera. A LED flash is placed beside the camera for lighting. The rear camera can record video in 4K resolution.

Connectivity options provided with the W2018 includes Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi 802.11ac (dual band), 4G LTE, 3G, GPS + GLONASS, and NFC. It is fuelled by a 2300mAh battery with wireless charging.

The clamshell phone is exclusive to Asia market only with price starting at $2000.
