Samsung Galaxy Note Fan Edition Officially Announced

Samsung has officially launched its refurbished Galaxy Note7 as Galaxy Note Fan Edition (a.k.a Galaxy Note FE) in South Korea. The new smartphone has identical specs as the previous discontinued one, however, this packs a 3200mAh battery—300mAh lower in capacity when compared with Note7.

The firm in third quarter of 2016 faced a major crisis globally when its newly-released Note7 smartphones began to catch fire randomly in different regions, an issue later discovered to be battery failure. This forced Samsung to discontinued the said smartphone, resulting in billions of dollars of revenue loss in forth quarter of the same year.

Samsung since then has introduced strict policy measures which includes 8-point battery safety check and multi-layer battery safety measure. These were implemented on the firms recent Galaxy S8/S8+ and the upcoming Galaxy Note8 will inherit these safety precautions as well. Most importantly, the new Galaxy Note FE has these measures checked.

The Galaxy Note FE has an edge-to-edge Infinity Always-on display, border-less at the sides. It runs on Android Nougat OS and is pre-loaded with Bixby—Samsung personal assistant service. In addition, the smartphone comes with S Pen with 4,096 level of pressure sensitivity for sketching and note taking; is IP68 certified for waterproof and dustproof, and it has fingerprint sensor and iris recognition that works with "Samsung Pass" for one-touch login access.

Samsung has planned to make available 400,000 units of the phone in S Korea with no mention of other regions. The Galaxy Note FE is painted Gold Platinum, Blue Coral, Silver Titanium, and Black Onyx. No details on its pricing.

Update 07-July-2017

The Galaxy Fan Edition today goes on sale in South Korea. As Samsung already revealed, only 400,000 units will be available in first sales batch. The phone costs KRW 699,600 (US$611).
