Dual 5: Micromax "First" Smartphone with Dual Rear Cameras Announced

Micromax at a special event held in India today launched a new photocentric Android phone under its newly invented "Dual" series named Dual 5, which is the company's first smartphone to sports dual rear cameras.

The phone comes loaded with two rear-facing cameras, the first boasting a 13-megapixel RGB sensor with f/1.8 aperture, while the second claims a 13-megapixel monochrome sensor for best photo capture even in low-light, thanks to twin-tone LED flash onboard. The cameras are capable of recording 4K video, and to better offer distinct clarity during after-capture image processing comes included with Sony IMX sensors. There is also a 13-megapixel camera at the front with f/2.0 aperture for taking selfie.

Moving on, the Dual 5 features a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with full-HD (1920x1080) resolution and pixel density of 401ppi, protected on the surface with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. A 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor clocked at 1.8GHz powered it on the inside, coupled with 4GB of RAM and Adreno 510 GPU. It includes a 128GB of built-in storage with external MicroSD slot available to further expand the storage.

Disappointingly, Micromax has opted for the nearly-dated Android 6.0 Marshmallow on its latest device. There is no mention of Android 7.0 Nougat update neither. The Dual 5 comes with hybrid dual SIM slots that enables the second SIM slot to be use as MicroSD slot; bears a fingerprint sensor at the back for smart security, and has an Infrared sensor for remote control function.

Connectivity options included are Bluetooth 4.2, WiFi 802.11ac (dual band), 4G VoLTE, 3G, 2G, GPS/A-GPS, and USB Type-C. It has a dedicated military-grade EAL 5 chip for security and anti-theft and is backed by a 3,200mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0.

Painted in Gold color, the Micromax Dual 5 is priced at Rs 24,999 ($375). It will be available at online and offline stores across the region from 10th of April.
