BlackBerry Aurora

BlackBerry earlier this year officially made it known that it will stop in-house production of its upcoming smartphones by outsourcing it to its partners and instead focus on its software development. Today, one of the company's partners PT BB Merah Putih, has announced a new entry-level BlackBerry smartphone in Indonesia called Aurora.

According to BlackBerry, the Aurora is made and is designed to cater for the needs of Indonesian customers. Notably, it is the first BlackBerry smartphone to supports dual SIM. The phone also runs Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box. Like other Android smartphones released by the company in the past, the Aurora comes with BlackBerry's Hub productivity suite and DTEK app.

Specwise, it features a 5.5-inch IPS display with HD resolution of 1280x720 and pixel density 267ppi. Diving in, it is driven by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor with a clock speed of 1.4GHz, slammed with 4GB of RAM and Adreno 308 GPU. The phone includes a 32GB of built-in storage, which is further expandable up to 2TB via MicroSD card.

At the rear, it comes equipped with a 13-megapixel autofocus camera with twin-tone LED flash, while an 8-megapixel selfie camera is placed at the front. Connectivity options included are WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1, 4G LTE, 3G, GPS/A-GPS, and GLONASS. It is backed by a 3,000mAh battery that can render up to 20 hours of normal use and 30 hours of standby time.

Painted in Gold, Black and Silver colours, the BlackBerry Aurora is priced at RP 34,99,000.00 (US$260) and will be available for pre-orders starting from March 12. BlackBerry is offering freebies for those who order before it go on sale.

At MWC last month the company announced a flagship device called KEYone, which happened to be the last smartphone designed by BlackBerry via TCL. It comes with capacitive QWERTY backlit keyboard that are touch responsive; features a 4.5-inch display with 3:2 aspect ratio, and runs on Android 7.1 Nougat.
