That part of the year where boxes that serves as Christmas presents are distributed from one household to another globally, Gionee, the giant Chinese firm, has taken time to unwrapped its own box, and guess what's inside....a US$1,007 premium smartphone. Gionee is willing to distribute this rich phone of hers to every household in China, not as Santa present, but to those who pre-order one. The M2017 is the company's latest flagship that auto draws a line between the rich and the poor considering its high price tag. Gionee is even offering the phone for the extra-rich that are willing to pay US$2,446 for the exclusive edition, whose main difference is the custom Italian alligator leather back it possess.

The Gionee M2017 doesn't just boasts out loud of the $$$, its specifications is quite tempting and fascinating even though we expect something more powerful to reside in the processor compartment than what is placed there at that price point. The design is eye-catching, the golden aluminium frame sitting majestically on top and bottom while extending its arm to the side and back, meekly blending with the brown-like leather back. The M2017 body is 10.78mm thick and it weighs 238 grams, which is quite heavy, but this is due to the large 7000mAh battery it packs behind. Gionee claims up to 25 hours of video playback and 915.42 hours (38 days) of standby time in a single charge, thanks to its intelligent power management system. The battery can be quickly filled up via Quick Charge 3.0.

In terms of specifications, the smartphone features a 5.7-inch AMOLED curved glass display with Quad-HD (2560x1440) resolution, protected on the surface by Sapphire glass. A 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 processor clocked at 1.95GHz drive it on the inside, paired with 6GB of RAM and Adreno 510 GPU. The phone comes in two storage options, 128GB and 256GB, both lacking external expansion slot. Gionee however has opted to use Android 6.0 Marshmallow instead of Android Nougat on its new device, with Amigo OS 3.5 on top.

Sitting at the back are dual rear-facing cameras, the first hosting a 13-megapixel sensor and the second a 12-megapixel sensor, while a single LED flash sits right below them. There is also an 8-megapixel camera equipped at the front for taking selfie. A fingerprint sensor is house at the front below the display for smart security as well. Connectivity options loaded with the M2017 are Bluetooth, WiFi 802.11ac (dual Band), 4G LTE, 3G, 2G, GPS/A-GPS, and USB Type-C.

The Gionee M2017 is painted in Gold and Black colours. The 128GB storage variant as already mentioned costs CNY 6,999 ($1,007) while the exclusive variant costs CNY 16999 ($2,446). Both are available for pre-orders in China.
