Sharp Aquos 507SH: First Android One Smartphone with Waterproof Launched

Google started its Android One project in 2014 and there are over twenty regions already in participation, from Africa to Europe to Asia and to Middle-East, thanks to local OEM and carrier. Japan is the latest country to join the board with Sharp taking the honor to announce its first Android One smartphone under its "Aquos" series called Aquos 507SH.

While most of Android One smartphones launched in the past has entry-level specs and few are mid-end, the Aquos 507SH is the first to comes with IP58 certification, earned with its sleek waterproof and dustproof body. The phone features a 5-inch IGZO display with HD (1280x720) resolution, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4. It is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor, coupled with 2GB of RAM and Adreno 405 GPU. 16GB of built-in storage onboard can be further expanded up to 200GB via MicroSD card.

The device runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box, and is qualify to receive Android 7.0 Nougat update knowing that all Android One phones are given free licence of upgrade directly from Google for eighteen months after their launching. In photography, the device sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash which should be able to record full-HD video, while it harbours a 5-megapixel camera at the front for taking selfie.

Connectivity options included are 4G LTE + VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.2, WiFi, 3G, 2G, GPS/A-GPS, NFC, and Micro-USB. It measures 142 x 71 x 8.8mm and weight 135 grams. A 3100mAh battery turn it on.

The Sharp Aquos 507SH will be available in White, Blue, and Black colours when it go on sale in Japan in coming days. There is no word on its pricing.
