Samsung Galaxy Gear Smartwatch with Super AMOLED Display Launched at Google I/O

The South Korean tech company, Samsung, today has unveiled its new wrist-borne at the ongoing Google I/O event dubbed Galaxy Gear. Notably, the new tech device is the first smartwatch to runs Android Wear OS. The Android Wear OS was specifically designed for smartwatches and other wearable devices.

The Samsung Galaxy Gear sports a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED touch display with 320x320 pixel resolution, and is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, coupled with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage.

The smartwatch is dustproof and water resistant certified with IP67 rating. The Galaxy Gear has an inbuilt heart rate sensor alongside with accelerometer, compass, and gyro sensors. It only offers Bluetooth 4.0 LE as connectivity options.

According to the CEO and President of Samsung's mobile division, JK Shin:

"Samsung has been a pioneer in the quickly-evolving wearable market, and the launch of Gear Live furthers our efforts to deliver a simple and intuitive wearable experience to consumers."

The new Galaxy watch packs a 300mAh battery. It will be available starting from today and can be purchase via Google Play Store for £169.
