Microsoft Surface Book 2 Arrives in 13.5" and 15" Model with Powerful CPUs

Microsoft Surface Book 2

Microsoft has announced Surface Book 2, the company's latest Windows 10 hybrid laptop and an upgraded version of Surface Book that was released in 2015. The second-generation Surface device comes in 13.5" and 15" models, each featuring different specifications but have identical outer design.

Surface Book 2 backlit keyboard

The Surface Book 2 comes with a detachable backlit keyboard with a glass trackpad that can be easily attached to the bottom hinge. The keyboard can be attach and detach with one click of a botton and it can be flip and bend to use in four different modes, Tablet, Laptop, Studio and View, for convenience of use in any environment and flexibility of use depending on an user activity.

13.5-inch and 15-inch models

The 15" model features a 15-inch PixelSense display with 3240x2160 resolution, 3:2 aspect ratio, with an impressive pixel density of 260PPI. The display supports 10-point multitouch and has a contrast ratio of 1600:1. Moving on, it is powered by an 8th-Gen Intel Core i7-8650U (Coffee Lake) processor with a clock speed of up to 4.2GHz (turbo boost), paired with 6GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce 1060 dedicated GPU, 16GB of LPDDR3 RAM clocked at 1866GHz, and up to 1TB of PCIe SSD.

The Surface Book 2 13.5" model on the other hand features a 13.5-inch PixelSense display with 3000x2000 resolution and 267PPI pixel density. The display has same properties as the 15" model including the 10-point multitouch and the likes. It is however offered in two variants; a 7th-gen Core i5-7300U processor version with Intel HD Graphics 620 integrated GPU, and an 8th-gen Core i7-8650U processor version with 2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce 1050 GPU, both accompanied by 8GB / 16GB of LPDDR3 RAM and up to 1TB of PCIe SSD.

The 13.5" and 15" Surface Book 2 models are Windows Mixed Reality ready for AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality) experience. There is an 8MP camera at the rear of the tablet with 1080p video recording ability and a 5MP front-facing camera that supports Windows Hello Facial Recognition. For best audio enjoyment, the 2-in-1 front-facing stereo speakers are enhanced with Dolby Audio Premium and the laptop also supports Dolby Atmos. There are dual microphones on deck for audio recording and video chat.

Rear metal finnish

Connectivity options provided are USB Type-C, 2x USB 3.1 (Gen 1) ports, 2x Surface Connect ports, Bluetooth 4.1, WiFi 802.11ac, full size SD card reader, and 3.5mm headphones jack. The Surface Book 2 is XBox ready and XBox One controller can be paired with it for gaming without additional hardware. Some XBox accessories will also work with the laptop.

It will be available for pre-orders from November 9 in the U.S on Microsoft online and offline stores and will shipped from December 16.

Optional Surface Pen and Surface Dial accessories will be available separately for $99.99.
