Edit blog template script on Android

If you are a webmaster, a blogger or a web developer, and you are finding it difficult to modify or edit some areas of your website like template and widgets which contains javascripts, html, css and jquery on your Android phone, I've got you covered. Today, I will be showing you how you can easily edit any html-based website template, css, javascript and other web elements on your Android.

Alot of things has changed in the past few years on the world wide web with the arrival of smartphones, should we say the increase in number of blogs which can now be create in one click on any mobile platform (i.e Blogspot, WordPress and the likes), or the extreme increase in mobile traffic that keeps dragging web traffic further down the drain. Android recently becomes the most popular operating system in the world mainly because of its flexibility, allowing us to do what we once thought is impossible on mobile. While it serves alot of purpose for normal web surfers, it does too for webmasters and web developers, one of which is what I am about to share.

Seven years ago, it is impossible to edit a site template on mobile, but now Android gives us the possibility. There is an app I found very useful in doing this kind of job, I mean in patching troublesome templates to make it work or editing some cruel cascading stylesheet that just won't stick to where I want them to perform their duty. I used this app and preferred it so much that I've neglect my laptop notepad and other third-party tools like Notepad++ and PSPad. Enough of the teasing, the app is called 920 Text Editor.

920 Text Editor interface

920 Text Editor is a multifunctional text editor for Android that gives webmasters the ability to create and modify any text-based html contents and javascript files. It offers advance features that other basic text editor lacks, all you have to do is open the script or template you want to edit and start sculpting right away.

Search script

Website script

It has an advance "search" feature that can be use to easily find a specific code within thousands of codes in a script and replace it in one tap. All codes are highlighted in colors and users can change highlighted colors to their preferred choice. It also has "Auto Save".

Color scheme and syntax

For Blogger (Blogspot) users, here is how to use the app to edit your site template on Android.

  • Go to blogger.com using Android Chrome browser and login
  • Among the menus at the left sidebar, select "Theme"
  • At the top on the right, click the "Backup/Upload" button
  • Select "Download Theme" and wait for it to download

Using file manager like ES File Explorer, navigate to "Download" folder in your phone storage and search for the template you've just downloaded, it will look like this "theme-1234567890060086705.xml" or like this "template-1234567890060086705.xml". Click on it and select 920 Text Editor as the default app.

You can also open the template or any script within the app by clicking "Open" and navigating to where it is stored on your phone.

Editor menu options

Besides template, Bloggers can also use the app to edit third-party widgets on their Android phone. WordPress users are not left behind, as I have already said, 920 Text Editor can be use to edit any html contents including css and jquery.

There are no any requirements in using the app as it works on all Android versions starting from Android 2.3 Gingerbread to Android 7.0 Nougat, including Android 6.0 Marshmallow and Android 5.1 Lollipop. It is only 1MB in size and can be downloaded from here. You can also check out the latest version (v2) with redefined interface here.

Other Android applications that can be use to edit web scripts on Android are WebMaster's HTML Editor Lite, AWD, and DroidEdit.
