Google Partnered YI to Launch HALO VR Camera on its "Jump" Platform

Google in partnership with Chinese imaging firm YI, has unveiled a new VR (Virtual Reality) camera under its Jump platform called YI HALO, primary targeted at content creators and filmmakers. The device will allows filmmakers to capture 3D 360-degree scene without hassle.

The YI HALO is encompass with 16 4K cameras plus one optimally-placed Up 4K camera, each having an indicator light, and there is also a small screen to monitor status of each camera. The VR camera can capture 360-degree VR footage in 8K by 8K at 30 frame per second (30fps) or 6K by 6K at 60 frame per second (60fps).

Footage from these cameras runs through the Jump Assembler, which uses sophisticated computer vision algorithms and the computing power of Google's data centers to create 3D 360 video. Scenes and footage captured can be preview live on Android via an accompanied app which can also be use as a remote control.

Its compact lightweight design of less than 8 pounds gives it the advantage to be carried around without stress. Also, the YI HALO inner battery boasts of up to 100 minutes of continuous shooting, which should be more than enough to get things done.

The YI HALO VR camera wears a price tag of US$16,999. Units will be available for select creators today while it will publicly go on sale this summer. Creators can register for early purchase program on YI official site.
