101 Saphir: Archos First "Rugged" 2-in-1 Tablet Announced Ahead of MWC

Archos 101 Saphir

Archos, the French phone maker ahead of MWC has announced its first "rugged" 2-in-1 hybrid tablet called 101 Saphir. Primarily aimed at outdoor workers and factory workers, the device is IP54 certified, meaning, it is dustproof and splash-proof. The tablet can also survive a fall from up to one meter from ground.

The 101 Saphir comes with a detachable keyboard that can be cling to the hinge to use in desktop mode. It is to be noted that this is Archos first tablet to runs Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box. The company may also release a Windows version because we couldn't just keep noticing the Windows key on its bundled keyboard.

Specwise, the Archos 101 Saphir features a 10.1-inch IPS touch display with WXGA (1280x800) pixel resolution. It is powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT8163 processor with a clock speed of 1.5GHz, slammed with 1GB of RAM and Mali-T720 GPU. It includes a 16GB of built-in storage that can be expanded up to 128GB via MicroSD card.

The tablet sports a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with no LED flash, while a 2-megapixel camera is placed at the front. For best audio output, the device is equipped with dual stereo speakers and there is a micro-HDMI port on the side for connecting it to external display. Connectivity options onboard includes Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi, GPS, and USB Type-C. It is backed by a 6,000mAh battery.

The Archos 101 Saphir will be showcase at MWC next week. No word on pricing and availability yet.
