Lenovo Legion Y720 with VR support

That awkward moment we thought Dell has steal the show with its new 2-in-1 XPS laptop and Lenovo showed up with its beastly gaming machine. Lenovo today has drawn the curtain off its latest Windows 10 gaming laptops at the ongoing Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas, namely Legion Y520 and Legion Y720. Lenovo describes both laptops as the next-generation in gaming industry.

The Legion Y720 also bridge the gap between reality and virtual world by offering VR (Virtual Reality) support out-of-the-box, thanks to its high-end premium Nvidia Graphics. Hooking a VR headset into the HDMI slot will set the VR baked into the graphics into motion. The Legion Y520 misses on this feature though. Besides its VR support, the Legion Y720 is also claimed by Lenovo to be world's first Windows-based PC to support Dolby Atmos, which promise immersive audio experience during gameplay. The Y520 again misses on this feature but it comes pre-loaded with Dolby Audio Premium and its dual 2W speakers are Harman Kardon certified.

In technical aspect, the new Lenovo gaming laptops features I5.6-inch IPS display that touts 16:9 aspect ratio that is anti-glare coated, the Legion Y520 offering full-HD (1920x1080) resolution, while the Legion Y720 can be configured with up to Ultra-HD (3840x2160) resolution. The laptops are powered by up to 7th-Gen Intel Core i7 (Kaby Lake) processors with Nvidia GeForce (GTX 1050 Ti for Y520; GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5 for Y720) graphics and 16GB of DDR4 RAM, the RAM equipped in two SODIMM slots inside (8+8).

Connectivity options included are 2x USB 3.0 ports, USB Type-C port, USB 2.0 port, HDMI port, RJ45 LAN port, 3.5mm audio jack + microphone, Bluetooth 4.1, and WiFi 802.11ac (dual band) for the Legion Y520, while the Legion Ⓨ720 comes with 3x USB 3.0 ports, Thunderbolt USB Type-C port, and DisplayPort in addition to the aforementioned connectivity.

The Legion Y520 is fuelled by a 3-cell 45WHr battery that can last up to 4 hours, while the Legion Y720 is powered by a 4-cell 60WHr battery that can render up to 5 hours of use in a single charge. The company is also offering various accessories for the device, this includes Y Gaming Optical Mouse, Y Gaming Stereo Headset, and Y Armoured Backpack.

The Lenovo Legion Y520 will be available from February 2017 at a starting price of US$899.99, and the Legion Y720 from April at a starting price of US$1,399.99.
