It is clad in a metal body that is 7.4mm thin and the back panel is made of glass material coated with ceramic crystals, which reflects and dazzle when light falls on its surface.

Under the hood, it is driven by a 64-bit octa-core MediaTek Helio P20 processor clocked at 2.3GHz, paired with Mali-T880 GPU. The phone comes in two variants, 3GB RAM with 32 GB storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage, both lacking external MicroSD expansion slot.

There is a fingerprint scanner embedded beneath the physical home button located at the front of the device, which make use of the firm proprietary mTouch 2.1 fingerprint recognition technology for smart security and mobile payment (supports WeChat and AliPay). In optics, the M3X sports a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture, Sony IMX386 sensor, Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) and twin-tone LED flash, capable of recording video in 4K, while a 5-megapixel camera is placed at the front for selfie capture.
