HTC First Nougat Smartphone Lacks 3.5mm Audio Jack and is Meant for U.S Only

HTC Bolt

The Taiwanese phone manufacturer HTC, has announced a new flagship smartphone in the United States exclusively on network carrier Sprint called Bolt. The device is clad in an aluminium body that is water repellant (IP57), measuring 153.6x77.3x8.1mm. Notably, on the negative part, HTC has decided to tread on Apple path by removing the 3.5mm audio jack and has instead opted to deliver audio over USB Type-C connection. On the positive part, the HTC Bolt runs Google's latest Android 7.0 Nougat with Sense UI on top, making it the company's first device to runs Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box.

The HTC Bolt features a 5.5-inch S-LCD 3 display with a brilliant QHD (2560x1440) resolution and pixel density of 534ppi, protected on the surface by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It is driven on the inside by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 clocked at 2.0GHz, slammed with 3GB of RAM and Adreno 430 GPU. It includes a 32GB of built-in storage that is expandable via MicroSD card. For enhanced music experience, the phone is loaded with 24-bit Hi-Res audio and BoomSound.

In photography, the Bolt is equipped with a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture, Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) and twin-tone LED flash, capable of recording 4K and slow motion video, while an 8-megapixel camera is placed at the front for taking selfie. Connectivity options included with the device are Bluetooth 4.1, WiFi 802.11ac (dual band), 4G LTE Cat.9, 3G, 2G, GPS/A-GPS + GLONASS, NFC, and USB Type-C. It is backed by a 3200mAh battery.

The HTC Bolt is painted in Glacier Silver and Gunmetal Grey colors. It is available on Sprint in U.S with 2 years contract payment at $25 per month.

In addition to specs written above, the HTC Bolt also packs a fingerprint scanner beneath the physical home button located at the front below the display for smart security and authentication.
