Lenovo Air 13 Pro vs Mi Notebook Air 13.3-inch: which is worth buying?

Lenovo Air 13 Pro-1

Few days after Xiaomi launched Mi Notebook Air, its first full Windows (Windows 10 to be precise) laptop that got the world buzzing because of its affordability with attractive specs it packs inside, Lenovo has followed suit to announce a counterpart. The Air 13 Pro as named, features nearly identical specs with 13.3-inch version of Mi Notebook Air, but it offers even more, yet at the same price tag.

Competition is sweet for consumers, wherever competition takes place consumers reaps the full benefit. The Lenovo Air 13 Pro comes with a metal body design that measure just 14.8mm at its thickest point and weigh 1.29kg, which is 0.01kg heavier than Xiaomi laptop, but with the same dimensions. The hinge of Lenovo Air 13 Pro however can be tilted up to 180-degree, a plus when compare with 135-degree that Mi Notebook Air can only maintain. And what can be more surprising, they both comes in same colour variants, Gold and Silver.

The laptop features a 13.3-inch full-HD (1920x1080) IPS display with 170-degree wide-angle angle view and 16:9 aspect ratio, and is powered by an Intel Core i5 600U chipset with a clock speed of up to 2.8GHz, clubbed with 4GB of DDR4 RAM, a dedicated 2GB GDDR5 Nvidia GeForce GT 940MX GPU, and 256GB SSD storage. The company is also offering a high-end version with Core i7 processor, 8GB of DDR4 RAM and 512GB SSD storage. To remind you, the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air 13.3-inch comes with a 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 940MX GPU and 8GB DDR4 RAM by default (standard).

Another notable feature the Lenovo Air 13 Pro is boasting of is fingerprint recognition onboard, something Mi Notebook Air flatly lacks. What further separate/distinguish both laptops is their connectivity. The Air 13 Pro for instance lacks HDMI port but comes with SD card reader, on the other hand, the Mi Notebook Air lacks SD card reader but has mini-HDMI port, though other connectivity options remains the same which includes USB 3.0 port, USB 2.0 port, USB Type-C, Bluetooth 4.1 and WiFi 802.11ac. It is backed by a 46Whr battery.

The standard version of Lenovo Air 13 Pro with Core i5, 4GB RAM, 256GB SSD is priced at CNY 4999 ($752 USD), same as Mi Notebook Air 13.3-inch, while the premium version with Core i7, 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD is priced at CNY 6999 ($1,050 USD). The laptop is available for pre-orders in China.

The 8GB RAM gives Mi Notebook Air an advantage over Lenovo Air 13 Pro, but then, the additional security provided via fingerprint recognition, and 2GB graphics memory included with Air 13 Pro are also very tempting. You choose.
