Tecno Camon C7 and Infinix Hot S

Africa as a whole is a battle ground for different Chinese OEM as at now. Some have been here long before smartphone came into existence and we have others who are just making an entry, but then, what their products speaks, their innovations, intuitions defines how successful they will be. Africans are wise, wise enough to know what is good for them. Among hundreds of Chinese company axing Africa phone market we have Tecno and Infinix. While the first has been here long before the later arrived, both companies has been quite successful in gaining the trust of most Africa regions.

Though Tecno has launched many smartphones in different markets way before 2014, the introduction of Phantom Z in 2014 brings them to global spotlight, the company's first high-end smartphone. Infinix has its most successful story in first quarter of 2015 when it launched the Hot Note, a 5.5-inch phablet packing a monstrous 4000mAh battery (Monstrous at then and even now). The competition however is growing stronger between these two firms, and here we are again in third quarter of 2016 with two upcoming smartphones, Tecno Camon C7 and Infinix Hot S (X521).

It is roughly three weeks when Tecno announced the Camon C9, succesor to last year Camon C8, and now the company is gearing up to introduce another device into the "Camon" family. This is stunning and surprising at the same time and we believe most Nigerians we feel that way. Infinix on the other hand are known to be skilled, targeted when introducing a new device. We haven't heard from them in a while and deep inside we know the company is working out something great, something that has now begot the Hot S.

Infinix Hot S X521
The Hot S is Infinix first smartphone to packs a fingerprint sensor. It runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box and besides these it also supports 4G LTE. Now that's amazing. The Camon C7 is expected to be Camon C9 junior, though we couldn't stop wondering why it wasn't named Camon C9 Mini or Camon C9 Lite. We are yet to get our hands on its full specs sheet but we have some details. Specs of both device are below.

Tecno Camon C7 Unofficial Specifications

  • 5.0-inch IPS display with HD (1280x720) resolution, 294ppi
  • 1.3GHz quad-core processor
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16GB built-in storage (expandable up to 32GB via MicroSD card)
  • 13-megapixel rear camera, Auto Focus, dual-LED flash
  • 13-megapixel front-facing camera, LED flash
  • OS: Android 6.0 Marshmallow
  • Dual SIM
  • Connectivity: WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1, 3G HSPA+, 2G, GPS
  • Battery: 2500mAh

Dual 13-megapixel cameras is great but the phone seems to be lacking 4G LTE. We wouldn't mind that much here considering major networks carriers here (in Nigeria) are yet to board 4G LTE platform. The capacity of the battery should be enough considering lack of 4G LTE and low processor speed. The Camon C7 is going to fall between low-class and mid-class and so its pricing. It is going to be affordable, atleast more than its Uncle, the Camon C9. We should get our hand on its picture anytime from now.

Infinix Hot S-2
Infinix Hot S Specifications

  • 5.2-inch IPS display with full-HD (1920x1080) resolution, 424ppi
  • 64-bit octa-core processor
  • 2GB/3GB RAM
  • 16GB/32GB built-in storage (expandable up to 128GB via MicroSD card)
  • 13-megapixel rear camera, Auto Focus, dual-LED flash
  • 8-megapixel front-facing camera, wide-angle lens, soft-tone LED flash
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • OS: Android 6.0 Marshmallow
  • Dual SIM
  • Connectivity: WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1, 4G LTE, 3G HSPA+, 2G, GPS/A-GPS, FM radio, Micro-USB
  • Battery: 3000mAh
  • Colour(s): Gold, Rose Gold, Blue, Black

From display to battery the Hot S seems to be well aligned, perfect, but we will still have some who will complain about its battery. The full-HD and 4G LTE will be power consuming we can't deny, but then, Android 6.0 Marshmallow saves you this stress with its optimized battery management and dose feature.

The Tecno Camon C7 is still under-wraps and hasn't surfaced yet but the Infinix Hot S is available for pre-orders on Jumia Nigeria. It should make its way to neighboring countries like Kenya and Ghana in coming months. Pricing still remains undisclose.
