Tecno Mobile earlier this week launched its first device to runs Google's latest Android version, Android 6.0 Marshmallow, out-of-the-box, the Tecno W4. Though the phone pose no threat to flagships and mid-ends around, it is here to capture the entry-level market in Africa and its environs. Notably, Tecno Mobile is the first Chinese OEM based in Africa to launch smartphone running Marshmallow.

As we already pointed out, the W4 is an entry-level smartphone that isn't here to wow! heavy users and gamers, but casual users. In terms of specifications, it features a 5-inch HD (1280x720) capacitive touch display with a pixel density of 294ppi. It is driven on the inside by a 64-bit quad-core MediaTek MT6735 processor with a clock speed of 1.0GHz, clubbed with 1GB of RAM and Mali-T720 GPU. A 16GB of storage resides inside with external storage support via MicroSD card (up to 32GB).

As usual, the Tecno W4 offers dual SIM functionality with supports of 3G, but lacks 4G LTE. Sitting at the rear is an 8-megapixel autofocus camera with a single LED flash, while it sports a 2-megapixel camera at the front. Other connectivity options onboard besides 3G are Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi with Hotspot, GPRS/EDGE, GPS, FM radio and Micro-USB. It is backed by a sufficient 2500mAh battery.

The Tecno W4 is wrapped in a plastic body with a mimic aluminium frame, measuring 143.5x71.3x8.5mm. It will be available later this month in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana and other selected markets. No word on pricing.

Tecno Mobile had earlier launched Boom J8, it audio-centric mid-budget smartphone in Nigeria and Kenya earlier this month, posing a 2GB of RAM, 13MP and 5MP cameras and lots more. The phone is currently sold at #40,000 NGN.
