Lenovo ThinkPad X1 modular tablet

With Christmas and New Year celebration at its ending, CES seems the next event geeks will be celebrating this week. An annual event meant for showcasing latest gadget products and technology inventions. Lenovo has kick-start this week with the introduction of a new modular convertible tablet named ThinkPad X1.

The modular here brings something new to the table, a rare feature in convertible tablet series. As modular applies, the ThinkPad X1 has sockets (more like plug-and-play) where new module can be attach to bring new functionality onboard. Amongs module available are presenter module which consists of pico projector and HDMI port, additional battery module for extra long battery life, 3D imaging module pre-loaded with Realsense camera, and ThinkPad keyboard with trackpoint, all of which can be attach separately without one affecting the other and easily unplug.

In technical aspect, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 features a 12-inch touchscreen display with 2160 x 1440 pixel resolution, flaunting a 3:2 aspect ratio. An accompanied active stylus put the touchscreen into good use. Diving in, the tablet is powered by a sixth-generation Intel Core m7 processor (with vPro) coupled with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of NVMe SSD storage. It runs Windows 10 Pro 64-bit out-of-the-box and has a front-facing HD camera.

Connectivity options included are Bluetooth, Wifi, 4G LTE-A (optional), USB 3.0 port (optional), OneLink+ docking connector and HDMI port (optional).

The ThinkPad X1 modular tablet costs $899 USD and will be available starting from February this year. The 3D Imaging module, Projector module and Productivity module costs $149 USD, $279 USD and $149 USD respectively. The modules will be available from May.
