Xiaomi MiPad 2

Along with Redmi Note 3 which was announced earlier, Xiaomi has also launched a new edition of its Mi tablet, MiPad 2, in China. The device comes in two versions which is further splitted into two variants. The first version runs Android operating system that's governed by the company's own MIUI 7, while the second version runs Windows 10 OS. The Android version comes in two storage variants, 16GB and 64GB, both priced at CN¥ 999 ($156 USD) and CN¥ 1299 ($203 USD) respectively. However, pricing of MiPad 2 Windows version is not mentioned. While Android version is expected to start shipping later this month, the Windows version is said to arrive in December.

Unlike first edition of MiPad tablet that was released in May last year, the MiPad 2 is wrapped in an aluminium body that has a slim profile of 6.95mm, bearing a weight of 322 grams. It features same 7.9-inch QXGA (2048 x 1536 pixels) retina display as its predecessor, but Xiaomi has option for a less powerful 64-bit quad-core Intel Atom X5-Z8500 chipset in this latest version when compares with Nvidia Tegra K1 chipset in first edition. We consider this as a downgrade not upgrade.

The processor is clocked at 1.44GHz and can turbo boost up to 2.24GHz. Coupled with it is a Intel HD Graphics and 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM. An 8-megapixel autofocus camera with f/2.0 aperture is equipped at the rear, accompanied with a LED flash, while it sports a 5-megapixel camera at the front for taking selfie. On the connectivity front, the MiPad 2 support Bluetooth 4.1, Wifi 802.11ac, 4G LTE, 3G HSPA+, 2G, GPS, and USB Type-C. Notably, this is the first tablet released by Xiaomi to comes with a USB Type-C port. The MiPad 2 is backed by a 6,190mAh battery.
