How To Configure MMS, Internet APN on All Tecno, Infinix Android Phones

Configuring Tecno, Infinix Internet and MMS settings

After buying a new Android smartphone, phablet or tablet, what comes next is inserting SIM card and start making/receiving phone calls and text messages. But besides all these, one of the major reason and the very purpose of buying the device is ability to use it to access the internet. Over 85% of smartphone users spend atleast 2 hours a day on the internet at minimum and its gradually increasing day by day.

As a brand new smartphone, inserting SIM card for the first time does require network settings to be configured before it can be able to connect to the internet. Today, we folks at CCN will be sharing how Tecno and Infinix Android users can set up their smartphone internet including APN (Access Point Name) and MMS (Multimedia Message). We'll also provide default internet configuration settings of major network providers in Nigeria (MTN, GLO, Etisalat, Airtel) and Kenya (Safaricom, Airtel).

Like other smartphones running Android OS (operating system), Tecno and Infinix Android phones doesn't differs much in interface/settings and hence this tutorial can also be use to configure any other phone as long as it runs Android OS, though we're limiting the scope to Tecno and Infinix alone.

You can also learn:

Much things has changed from era of Android 2.2 Froyo to Android 5.1 Lollipop which is the latest for now, the interface, settings, arrangement of icons, status bar, and more. Though the topic says "All Tecno and Infinix Android phones" irrespective of Android version they runs, the huge changes inbetween each Android version will force us not to be specific to any device, so, there will be some guesswork for you (reading this post) to handle but we'll try to make it easy to understand.

Normally, inserting a new SIM into a used phone or old SIM into a new phone automatically triggers WEB, APN and MMS configuration to be send through SMS by network provider, but this is useless incase of Tecno and Infinix Android phones, they have to be manually configured. Now, follow the steps below to get started.

In most cases, Network configurations can be found in Settings. You can access Network configuration either by clicking Menu in Homescreen -> Settings or via Status bar (a.k.a Notification bar) -> Quick menu -> Settings. Sometimes depending on type of phone, it may not appear as Network but Wireless connectivity.

After you've located Network, clicking on it should lead you to either GSM/UTMS options under which you'll see Access Point Names or it should lead you directly to Access Point Names. Now, in most Infinix and Tecno phones (especially old models) you'll need to press Menu key and select New APN before you can see where you'll insert the network configuration. In new Tecno/Infinix phones, you may not need to do that.

In the Access Point configuration field, you'll see what is listed below.

Name
APN
Proxy
Port
Username
Password
Server
MMSC
MMS Proxy
MMS Port
MMS Protocol
MCC
MNC
Authentication Type
APN Type

The MCC, MMS Protocol and MNC should already be configured by the SIM. What you only need is APN, Proxy, Port, Username, Password, MMSC, MMS Proxy, and MMS Port.
