Tecno Boom J7 vs Infinix Hot Note

Tecno and Infinix products are favorite of many Nigerians, not because they comes cheap but because they offer more value despite their low price. Tecno Mobile primarily focus on Africa market in general which includes Ghana and Kenya but we can boldly say their smartphones are widely (and wholeheartedly) accepted in Nigeria. On the other hand, Infinix Mobility are learning fast in gaining Africa market but they are yet to fully gain ground as Tecno Mobile does.

What brings Tecno on top is the trust they have build in their long staying since they arrive to Nigeria in 2012, Infinix began to gain popularity in late 2013 and they are gaining it fast.

In february 2015, Infinix launched a new flagship smartphone, the Hot Note. It is the first smartphone to be launched by the firm in 2015 and they are yet to release a new one on top till now. The phone changes the tide, it was greatly accepted both in Kenya and Nigeria and more than 50,000 units were sold within a week in Nigeria only. While its sales seems never to come to an end, Tecno make a move to divert peoples attention by unleashing their first 2015 flagship, the Boom J7. Will Tecno Boom J7 make an impact?

We took time to go through their specifications, compares both while considering some factors and here are the highlights.

Display:

Boom J7 -> 5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) IPS display, 294ppi pixel density
Hot Note -> 5.5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) IPS display, 267ppi pixel density

Note: Hot Note get a slight chance here as people will go for a bigger screen than a high pixel density. We consider anything above 250ppi as satisfying.

Processor And RAM:

Boom J7 -> 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor, 1GB RAM
Hot Note -> 1.4GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor, 1GB RAM

Note: When it comes to playing high graphics game and multitasking, Hot Note has a chance than Boom J7. Ofcourse, you can't compare the power of 8-core with 4-core.

Camera:

Boom J7 -> 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and 2-megapixel front camera
Hot Note -> 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and 2-megapixel front camera

Note: They are both head-to-head when it comes to photography, but the type of lens and sensors used matters alot. Both firm hides these properties so we can't judge which produce great result.

Storage:

Boom J7 -> Packs a 16GB of built-in storage, expandable to 32GB
Hot Note -> Packs a 16GB of built-in storage, expandable to 32GB.

Note: Nothing changes here.

Connectivity:

Boom J7 -> Dual-SIM (GSM+GSM), Bluetooth 4.0, Wifi, 3G, GPRS/EDGE, GPS, FM radio, and Micro-USB.
Hot Note -> Dual-SIM (GSM+GSM), Bluetooth 4.0, Wifi, 3G, GPRS/EDGE, GPS, FM radio, and Micro-USB.

Note: Non is disappointing either.

Battery:

Boom J7 -> 2020mAh removable battery.
Hot Note -> 4000mAh non-removable battery.

Note: 4000mAh is so huge and we are quite sure that one full charging circle on Hot Note will last you a day or maybe two (if you're not typoholic) but wait a minute, the battery is permanently sealed on the inside, you've no chance of changing it once it's weak. Boom J7 battery can be replaced over and over again and that's a slight chance.

Pricing:

Boom J7 -> Cost #28,000 NGN ($140 USD).
Hot Note -> Cost #23,500 NGN ($118 USD).

Note: The margin is just too great.

Conclusion:

The results are plain, we don't want to be the judge here. Boom J7 still has a secret weapon we are yet to find out, its commercial says "Best budget for music lovers". A dedicated audio chipset is implanted for rendering best audio quality but Tecno fails to specified the name and type of chipset it is.

Infinix Hot Note Gold Edition has been on sale since March, you can buy it from Jumia

Tecno Boom J7 just arrived to Nigeria last week, you can order one from Konga store
