Now, when it comes minimizing your data usage, there are some procedures involve that you need to take note. First, your phone must be rooted. Root is needed in gaining access to some restricted area in your smartphone, without root you can't attain and re-configured some processes to your advantage.

These are things you need to do to reduce your data usage.


1.) Download firewall app to restrict some apps from accessing internet: You can restrict an unwanted app from gaining access to internet by using DroidWall, the app requires root access, it will greatly help in reducing your data usage and enhance your smartphone.

2.) Hibernating system apps that consume too much data when not needed: Hibernating apps that you can't restrict i.e Google Play, can help reduce your data consumption. Greenify is more capable of doing the job, but it only support Android 4.0+. If you are using an older Android version like 2.2 - 2.3 you can use App Quarantine. Both apps require root access.

3.) Disable Background data and Auto Sync: Background data and auto sync enables apps to access the internet and synchronize their data anytime you turn your mobile data on. Most of the basic apps that use the service are Facebook, Twitter, Weather, Location, Google, gmail, News and many more. You can manually sync the apps by just clicking on them, disabling it doesn't affect you from receiving notifications and messages from BBM and Whatsapp as well

4.) Using light browser: Most of time, the browser use in accessing the net determines data consumption. Though, heavy browser tends to fully render a web page and uses Flash player while light browser do not. Heavy browser that are widely known are Mozilla, Google Chrome, Opera Beta and Dolphin browser. Light browser can greatly reduced data usage but doesn't support full rendering of a web page and Java script, the most popular light browser available are UC Mini and Opera Mini, both of which you can download from Google Play store.
